Choosing a good mentor couple will help tremendously in making this time of preparation truly helpful for the strengthening of your future life together. Please consider carefully who you might ask, making sure to find a couple who:
• both of you admire
• both of you are comfortable with
• truly practice their Catholic faith
• have been married in the Church for five years or more
• have the kind of relationship you would like to imitate
• attend the parish you will be attending after the wedding
• can hold you accountable and challenge you
• are preferably not relatives
Don’t be afraid to ask a couple who you don’t know very well yet. Most couples will be happy to agree to take on the responsibility and the privilege of helping an engaged couple prepare for marriage. Even if they have to refuse for some reason, they will be honored to have been asked.
